130%

We would normally have a fast-topic-changing-Friday today, but today is different.

Even though I feel as if I only have about 80% to give, I’m running on a 130% capacity right now.

I know, this doesn’t make any sense. Cut me some slack. I’m sick.

foundboy1.JPG I’m putting a good 50% towards this boy. No, he isn’t one of ours. He was picked up as a stray on June 4th and turned over to our vet’s clinic. I’ve been desperately trying to find his family for the last few days.

No tags, no microchip. Very sad.

Rest assured, whether we find his family or not, we’re taking good care of him through Basenji Rescue.

sick.JPG I’ve also been putting 50% towards NOT GETTING SICKER. I leave for Alaska next week, and I want to be well!

I’m covering all of the bases – fluids, rest, vitamins, homeopathic remedies, medicines, and voodoo.

So far I’ve managed to keep most of the symptoms down.

Damn you, common cold!

eastenders1.JPG I suppose I’ve been giving the Baby EastEnders sweater about 30%.

Next step, weave in a frighting number of ends.

I wish I could get the colors to photograph better…

sniff.JPG Well, my whole numbers system is thrown off, since these guys get 100% from me every day. Lou, sniffing the camera.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I LOVE Airborne for fighting colds and whatnot. Give it a shot. Hope you feel better and happy trip!

  2. supposedly xicam sort of works but i’m still a skeptic. i’ve used that and airborne religiously to no avail. i just believe your body has to go through it’s own processes to get that crap out. i hope yours removes it quickly and painlessly. personally, keeping myself ridiculously hydrated with water makes me feel better and helps remove the toxins. so drink loads of the stuff!!!

poor little guy. i hope you find his family soon. he sure is a cutie!

  3. Staci,
In my life it just wouldn’t be an official vacation if I wasn’t sick as a dog just before it was time to leave. I’m not sure what it’s like to even be on a plane without being in the throes of a sinus infection/cold/pharyngitis or lumbago/rheumatism, OCD/PMS or L.M.N.O.P. So I feel your pain and I’m here to tell you that it will all work out. Someone who puts so much kindness out in to the universe with your work for the Basenji rescue should be rewarded with good health. But if not good health, at least you will get your crown in heaven. (a lot of good that crown is going to do if you are sick in Alaska!)

    Hang in there!
    🙂

  4. So you are going to be a 5 dog house soon? haha
If only I lived closer, had less other animals and more space I’d TOTALLY take him, he looks like a darling and I miss my basenji access 🙁

  5. I cannot believe how much that lost pup looks like a cross between Gus and Lou!! That’s funny-poor little guy-I don’t have any cold voodoo, but I can say, get pregnant or become 7 again and you’ll feel better in 4 HOURS!! Also, that baby sweater is adorable, I wish I could wear some of this stuff-Feef

  6. I’m delurking to say that I hope you get better before you go on your trip. Being on a plane when you’re stuffed up is yucky!

Also, I’ve been wondering…are you allowed to bring your knitting needles with you on the plane? Or do they qualify as “weapons”?

  7. Awww, poor little lost puppy! I worry about how June would handle it if she ever got lost. She’s so clingy…she doesn’t like to eat if one of us isn’t home. (Well, she’ll eat her chicken and duck jerky whenever. But dog food requires complete security.) And when she sees people she loves (family and a few close friends) she whines and talks and rolls over and gets as close as possible and is just really, really happy to see you. If you’ve been gone for a few hours she neeeeds you to adore her for a little while. I worry about if she got lost…She’s scared of off-leash dogs, bigger dogs, strangers, loud noises, engines, some smaller dogs… I’m sure she’s stronger than I think, but it’s so hard to think of her not knowing where she was and if I was coming to get her. Which is why she wears a collar just to go into our privacy fenced back yard. Just in case of anything. I work with her pretty often on coming when she’s called, or coming to me under certian situations without me calling her, etc.

Hm. I think I’ve gone from, “Gosh, I hope my dog doesn’t get lost,” to some sort of frightening. Yikes.

Back to my original train of thought…I hope his family is looking for him and finds him soon!

And the post above mine raises an interesting point (no pun intended), can you bring knitting needles onto planes?

  8. I will have to double-check with the airlines again before I leave (because the rules are always changing), but knitting needles are okay. I have heard from other knitters that you’re unlikely to get stopped by security if you actually have knitting on the needles, and aren’t just carrying yarn and empty needles. I have a LOOOOONG flight straight from Houston to Anchorage, so I reallyreallyreallyreally hope I can knit.

  9. Knitting needles are just fine on planes. You’ll get ’em through security no problem at all. You’re technically allowed to take scissors now too. (I think they have to be shorter than 4 inches.) I’m with Amy – hit the Airborne. That stuff is genius.

  10. Hey Staci…actually Emergen-C’c Vitamin C drink would be better for your cold then the immune defense…
Take Zinc (I get the Halls Zinc lozenges) and pop an Echinacea…that will keep your covered….but the Vitamin C drink will kick the cold’s butt!!!
    Feel better soon!!!

  11. Nasty cold in the summer !!! My youngest has horrible allergies this time of year, it is hard to be sick this time of year.

I second the emergen-C, my favorite flavor is the Lite. Do you have Trader Joe’s neaby ? They have the best price, ~$8.99 for a box.
Do you have the little scissors that are in a circle, basially, a little cutting instrument ? Those are good for flying.

  12. Awwww… can that sweet boy come be my pretend Lou and live at my house? 🙂 (She says, as she removes everything from the coffee table to get it out of doggie reach.)
