But That’s Not All!

Look at me! Posting again! I’m so happy to be doing it.

This post is full of presents. Presents that I made myself, presents that have come in the mail, and four hairy presents that have been around for a long time. (If you didn’t catch that last one, I mean the four-legged things that growl and whine.)

Lemme show you…

indiancorn.JPG Here’s a little unexpected goodness. My friend Melissa (who doesn’t even knit) sent me this Mountain Colors Twizzle in the hopes that I’ll make something nice for myself. She also mentioned that she hopes this yarn is nice to work with.

Umm, yeah. I believe I can force myself to work with this lovely merino/silk blend.

earringssmall.JPG But that’s not all! She also sent me these pink skull-and-crossbones earrings. LOVE them.

Thanks, Melissa!

If you look closely, you’ll see my Dutch birthday calendar, complete with Drew’s birthday listed on the 6th, and my sister’s on the 10th. Just click on the photo for big.

bear.JPG But that’s not all!

Speaking of Drew…He went to the Crochet Guild of America’s annual meeting in New Hampshire, and brought me back a Blue Sky Alpaca Baby Bobbi Bear kit. He KNOWS I love kits. And I love polar bears, too.

He also gave me strict instructions to make this for myself. (I see a trend here. I suppose I do have a habit of giving my knits away.)

Thanks, Drew!

spun.JPG But that’s not all! I made myself a present, in the form of this yarn that I spun. I bought some pencil roving ages ago and decided to give it a try yesterday.

It doesn’t look that great, but it was really fun to spin, and the pencil roving made drafting really easy. This is the first time I’ve actually spun enough yarn to take it off the drop spindle and wind it into a hank. Thanks, Me!

sweater1.JPG But that’s not all! I also made a present for someone else, namely my soon-to-be niece, Molly Renee. This is the Matinee Coat from Debbie Bliss’ Baby Cashmerino book.

My sister insists that she’s going to have this baby any minute now. The doctors are still telling her she’s weeks away. We’ll just wait and see…

dogs.JPG And the gift that keeps on giving…

They normally like to spread out a bit more than this, but the sun wasn’t shining in a very wide spot on the deck.

Please take special care to notice Abe…it’s hard to see him on the black grill pad.

68826036-viki22.jpg One last thing…if I don’t get my hair cut like Victoria Beckham’s immediately, I’m going to pitch a serious fit.

  1. It’s great to hear you sounding so happy and busy! Love the bear kit and the picture of the boys–it is difficult to get a decent picture of a black dog.

The haircut is very cool and sexy but if you get the haircut will you consider a tatoo there also for the added emphasis? Life changes can lead to symbolic tatooing–I did resist the immediate urge but I still think about it occasionally.

  2. I got my hair cut like her the other week. It feels great! I think you’d look fab with it so make sure you post a pic!

what a cute little matinee coat. All that yarn made me feel warm and cosy πŸ™‚

  3. Fun gifts! I’m trying to avoid adding another addiction (spinning) to my already out of control knitting life, but your lovely yarn has me tempted again. Bad Staci!

PS I always look for Abe first – I have a soft spot for him!

  4. Oops! Haircut … my only question is whether you’ll start using the word “major” to describe everything if you get your hair cut like Victoria. “That yarn is MAJOR.” (In case you missed the 2 hour special with Mrs. Beckham, she uses “major” like Paris Hilton uses “hot”. It’s funny.)

  5. I think Posh’s tattoo looks good, but I think I’ll stick with my rule: No Tattoos Above The Shoulders. I take this rule so seriously that I don’t even have one above my KNEES.

  6. Everything looks great! Love the matinee coat AND the pink skull earrings – totally cool. I like your hair now, but I reckon you can pull off almost anything with your hair. I’m excited that you’re spinning, will you come teach me? I got a bag of llama fleece from a friend.

  7. Yay gifts! I love Victoria’s hair too! I covet it and think it would look awesome on you…especially with those pink skull earrings.

  8. Okay….the next time Drew goes to NH you will have to go too!! Then we can go shopping together!! LOL

    Awesome photo of the puppies!!!
(I still think abe needs a red and white sweater so he fits in!!)

  9. OOOO…what lovely gifts you have!! I’m so jealous over that merino/silk yarn. How I would love to dive into a bathtub filled with that yarn. Please don’t keep us in suspense over what you’re going to make with it…I’m dying to know!

Your niece is going to be the most beautifully dressed child EVER! Did you like that pattern??

  10. DO IT! You can so pull off that do. I freaking love her hair. Every time I see it I wish I was able to sport that look. Not going to happen with my big frizzy curls. Plus you have a great jaw line that would so rock that look.

I love the Matinee Coat and earrings and yarn. Good to see you filling up with little luxuries. The spinning looks great!

  11. ME TOOOOOO!!! Only I was thinking of getting it cut like Katie Klone Holmes. But she had *her’s* cut like Posh’s so it works out to the same thing.

And good call on the no tattoos about the shoulders. I have on on the back of my neck, lower than hers and it hurt like hell!!! If it had been my first it would have been my last let-me-tell-you!

Gifts are good and your four furry ones are the best. Speaking of Furry… Raisin took a 3 point major last weekend. And was BOS to the number on male Basenji in the country! Weeeeee!!!

  12. She makes me want to grow my hair out. And be dreadfully skinny. Well, at least one of those things is possible in this lifetime. πŸ™‚

I’m glad you pointed Abe out in that picture…I did almost miss him! It is a shame you don’t live someplace with winters. Abe really would look cute in a red sweater. Or the other boys would look cute in black sweaters?

  13. Staci,
I think you would look adorable with the Posh cut. Please get one so those of us with curly, (wrinkled) hair can live vicariously through you!

  14. i love makeovers. do the new do! i look awful with short hair and i’m growing it back out. (currently just in the middle of my shoulder blades, want it much longer!) i need you to get the cut since i can’t.

my tattoo rule is no where it will end up stretched hopelessly out of shape. thus they’ll be on the hurty places.

oh, and then you also need a ‘major” yum like mr. beckham to be seen with. even if yer just friends. the world at large doesn’t need to know. πŸ˜‰

  15. So, I think the baby sweater is adorable, and yes I WILL force her out of my body in a few weeks, whether she wants to or not!! The haircut is very similar to what you have just way shorter–and like someone said earlier you have a great jaw line for it!! I know I have the same jaw line and the same haircut–but beware of the color-the only reason why I say this is because she also has fine hair but a hairdresser 24/7, your hair actually does alot better if you blow out the cuticles, thus making it so you have volume, so don’t go dark underneath in the back, besides have you seen her skin tone? Totally different than yours. K

  16. Sorry, Staci, I think it’s unanimous: everyone here has decided that you MUST get the Posh cut. See? Everyone is chanting, “Cuuut it, cuuuuut it, cuuuut it!” I’m supposed to be growing my hair out long again, so I can’t very well take one for the team, can I? (Or CAN I . . . ? Hm!)

Again, I’m a disastrous knitter (actually, I only did it for about 5 seconds, so I can’t even call myself a knitter per se), so I marvel at all the lovely things you seem to churn out overnight. I love the name “Matinee Coat.” That’s going to be one classy little baby!

  17. Hi! I’m the director of an afterschool program in houston and I’m looking for individuals who might be interested in teaching knitting to a group of 10-12 middle schoolers once a week during the fall. I stumbled upon your blog in my search for knitting groups so I thought I’d post a comment requesting help in my quest. please email me if you are interested or if you know someone who might be interested! Thanks,
    Mandy

  18. The haircut looks great, but I think you should do something totally wild: a cut like Beckham’s, but dye to match the Red Boys! πŸ™‚

I love Melissa’s earrings, and all the yarns.

And rats! I just can’t learn to knit fast enough. πŸ™ I want to be able to do things like that sweet little matinΓ©e coat! (I did buy a pattern and yarn enough to make a little sweater, but I’m already totally befuddled!)

Glad to see you excited, my friend.

  19. I love Posh’s cut. Also, I think she is hilarious and awesome (I may have caught her reality TV special on E!).

Loving the gifties. Keep treating yo’self!

  20. Staci, I was catching up on blog-reading after my vacation and I am so sorry to hear everything that has happened with you! Everyone is right, now is the time to put yourself first! Personally, I know I couldn’t pull off the Posh cut but I definitely think you could πŸ™‚

  21. OMG! We have a HUGE skully lurv around this house! and PINK skullies???? I’m about to expire from envy! pink skully earrings…drool…

  22. What an adorable kit! Be sure to fill us in on how you like knitting with the Blue Sky. Do you have plans for the dye like Victoria as well? The “do” will look great on you!

  23. I, too, am just back from vacation and I’m so very sorry about the unexpected changes in your life. I’m happy to see that you’re working your way through everything with knitting and dogs. You are the most creative person… even special equipment for knitting pics. WAIT! Are you writing a knitting book and illustrating it yourself?

As for the Posh hair — you look so cute now and if you change it to that style, well, watch out Texas!

Hugs and more hugs, Staci. Keep writing — it makes all of us (you too) feel better.

    Jo

  24. Hi! You will absolutely love the Twizzle. I made two pairs of socks last winter out of it and they are beautiful. The first couple of wearings turned my feet colors, but that’s okay! I was newly separated (now almost divorced) and no one saw my feet anyway. Just be sure to wash whatever you make alone until there’s no more bleeding.

I also made the matinee coat out of Cashmerino in the lavender color and gave it as a gift. Debbie Bliss patterns are so timeless and the yarn is so luscious. One guy friend wanted to know if he could roll around naked in the Cashmerino. I told him he’d have to ask his wife and I’d have to leave the room, but I totally understood!

You seem to be holding up well. Remember that things will get to normal–not back to normal but a new normal.

    Hugs!

  25. I love Blue Sky Alpaca kits! I am knitting the Eyelet Baby Blanket right now in their dyed cotton color Honeydew. VERY cute. I can’t wait to see how the Bobbi Bear will turn out!

You can definitely pull off the hair. For some reason, a haircut is a must for major life changes. And you don’t have to get a real tattoo on your neck. There are some cool fake ones out there…or have a henna tattoo!

Also, I was reading some archives of the Yarn Harlot’s blog yesterday and she wrote that someone once told her to “Act the way you want to feel.” I think that’s great advice…and that’s exactly what you’re doing. I hope things continue to get better and better. *hugs*

  26. *sigh* That is how the back of my hair is supposed to be, but the stylist has been slacking lately. Like I said, I totally need a hook-up. πŸ˜‰
