A Cardigan for Staci
I don’t think I mentioned this while it was in-progress, but I recently finished A Cardigan for Arwen.
The story – well, if you’ve been reading verypink over the last few weeks, you know there are big and unexpected changes going on in my life right now. This has been The Knitting that has seen me through it so far. This is the sweater with a ton of stockinette that I didn’t mind doing, and just enough cable pattern to keep me alert. It has, in fact, been the perfect pattern for the last few weeks.
I kind of wish I wasn’t finished already.
| Pattern: A Cardigan for Arwen, Interweave Knits Magazine Winter 2006 Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca The results: I love it. It is just so…wearable. Even though I used this sweater as mindless knitting, it ended up being a great fit. I even got the extra length on the sleeves that I love! I purposely pulled my hair from my face to please the folks who prefer it that way. I got emails about it. I understand. |
|
| The thing that I like best about this sweater has to be the cable border. It’s reversible, so when the hood pulls the front open a little, it becomes a shawl collar – the same on both sides. Brilliant. | |
| Here is a close up of the cable, in progress. It’s really pretty and intricate.
I can’t wait for it to get cold. |
|
| This is half of what was going on at my feet while I was doing the self-portrait photo shoot in the sweater.
Lou and Abe were SO EXCITED for some reason. They actually tore their way through a make-shift baby gate to get to me. I don’t understand them, either. |
|
| Now on the needles – this top. (You actually have to click on the link to find out why I’m calling it a top.)
It is actually a scarf named “Eve” from Twisted Sisters. I’m knitting it with the Mountain Colors Twizzle I got as a gift from my friend Melissa. |
|
| This cable pattern is again – reversible. I do love me some reversible cables. It’s nice when scarves don’t have a wrong side.
This looks crazy and busy from close up, but as you can see in the photo above, it isn’t. I like how the pattern and the yarn are cooperating. |

That sweater is beautiful!! By the way…Keiki’s original name …was Arwen…
It didn’t suit her…
But the sweater is perfect for you!! Nice job!

The haircut looks fabulous both ways! And the sweater is gorgeous. I always kind of liked that sweater but was never sure if I wanted to knit it but it looks great in black!

LOVE the cardigan! It looks stunning on you…color, fit, style, everything! Goes great with the Posh-bob too. If you are sad to see if off your needles, than there is no reason why you can’t have one in a variety of colors…CO on black, red, tan, and blue one and you are set for every occasion.

Love the sweater. I usually have to buy my sweaters, how great that you can make your own.
I think the “top” will look great when it is done, I love the “busy” colors.
I guess the doggies really wanted your attention at that moment.

If you *really* want to knit another one I’ll take it off your hands.
Beautiful!! It makes me want to attempt something more challenging than scarfs (Excuse me tops), hats and dog sweaters.
Still love the hair!

I wanna see you wear your top out to the bank, or walking the dogs. I laughed out loud at the picture! Glad you’re able to knit to keep you on track. I walked. For hours.

Oh great, another sweater to add to my never-ending list. Did you put it on Ravelry? I gotta go queue it. I had seen it, but didn’t realize the cables were reversible. The top is fabulous! Love the way the yarn is working up. Does this mean you are going to get a new sleeve tat to show it off? Another delightful “in your face” I think. Don’t know why that concept appeals to me so much, yeah, I guess I do hold a grudge just a bit.

Your Arwen looks beautiful – great job! I loved knitting this cardigan too – the construction is so unusual.

Nice job on the sweater and the scarf is going to be great! It’s a perfect match for that yarn!

Lovely work on the sweater! I bought that issue of IK…and have been waffling on getting enough yarn to make one, as I’m still working up the courage to try a sweater

Your knitting is perfect, as usual. You have such a gift!
Now, please tell us that we are going to see a picture of you modeling your “top” just like the girl in the picture…and oh, don’t forget the knitted skirt, too!
I, like Teki, like to walk when I am trying to work through difficult times. In 2005 when I was going through my surprise divorce I went from a size 12 to a size 4. It was fabulous while it lasted.

Arwen is gorgeous! I’m glad it helped you through a tough time — and it looks like the sort of sweater that will continue to “be there” for you for years.
Love how the Mountain Colors “top” is looking, though I’m not sure it’s the yarn people will be noticing when you wear it in public!
Comment by Rachel — July 25, 2007 @ 11:31 am
Love it – it looks great and a wonderful FO to wear when the first cold snap arrives. That pattern has been on my list too!
Comment by Anne — July 25, 2007 @ 11:39 am
I have this in my very long ever-growing Ravelry Queue but I’m a little afraid of it actually. I think I’ll go meander through the projects and see what yarn you used because it looks GREAT! I wonder if one could make a belt from the same cable pattern to belt it closed for a few days before I inevitably lost it.

Love the cardigan. Love the “top.” Heh. Love the “downward dog.”

Your sweater is fabulous as is your new hair!

I liked your hair _in_ your face, ha ha – you just can’t please everyone.
Love, love, love your knitting. It’s so perfect. Good for you!
And you never let us down, more cute doggie pictures! So adorable!

Beautiful duds! The Arwen is going on my to do list. The scarf yarn is fabulous and I love that new technique–I have one similar that’s about to go on needles soon. Come on fall! Summer is getting old–hah! Doggie yoga makes me want to be in a pose. So cute.

I,too prefer the hair in the face- maybe it’s because i have the same cut lol! That purple yarn, and the sweater it became, is beautiful. I wish I was that good at knitting, I swear I’ll get there some day…
Comment by Kate — July 26, 2007 @ 8:18 am
Maybe the doggies reeeally wanted to model. I think the “top” would have looked nice on Abe.
Comment by Amy — July 26, 2007 @ 8:45 am
Love the cardigan — what a great color, too! Your new reversible scarf is lovely, and the doggy pictures are cute as always!

I am new to Ravelry where I stumbled across your post and wanted tell you that I am completely smitten with your Arwen cardi. It is stunning – even more lovely than the one pictured in Interweave.
