The Yarn Spoke to Me

img_63561.JPG I had this lovely alpaca and angora souvenir yarn that I bought a few weeks ago, and since I can’t leave yarn sitting around long enough to become stash, I wanted to knit it up.

So I asked the yarn to speak to me, and this is what it said:

img_6487.JPG “I will be a hat.”

So I got to work.

This is my own design…guess what I’m calling it.

rhoda_image.jpg I’m sure it was on the tip of your tongue…”Rhoda”.
img_6515.JPG The ties are good. Besides jazzing it up a bit, I can also pretend that I have long hair by swooping it back over my shoulder.

I love pretending that I have long hair.

img_6546.JPG Modeling a hat in the summer, even in air conditioning, is really too warm.
img_6559.JPG Abe and Lou were both a little riled up the other night (when they should have been relaxing), so I gave them each a paper towel to shred.

You guys totally missed it. It was a wild party.

  1. Love the hat, it is so cute. Wouldn’t have to worry about it being to warm here to model it, dang the temp has dropped way too much in the last few days.
And wow you are brave to give your doggies something just to make a mess with lol. I try to keep messy things away from my son.

  2. How’s your weather? We are getting rain all the way up here in OH from the hurricane for the last couple days. Good knitting weather.
Cute hat–nothing like a little instant gratification!

  3. cute hat! When you said you were going to make a hat with that yarn that was not at all what I was picturing 🙂

And I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that occasionally encourages my pets to destroy things just to use up their energy. Joe likes to attack empty milk containers. They’re the enemy!

  4. I assume you would have posted about the birth of Molly Renee. Does this mean she STILL has refused to be born? Or did I miss that?

  5. Cute hat! Love that yarn too. I too, occasionally give my pets something to tear up. The rabbit loves to get ahold of an old phone book!

  6. Rhoda! I love it! When you mentioned “flipping your hair back” it reminded me of when I was in kindergarten and I had this crocheted poncho. I used to put it on inside out and flip it back over my head and pretend I had really long hair. I wore it like this constantly. Even at school. Although I felt grand and beautiful, I hope no one else remembers!

  7. What a cute hat! Love the long ties too. It makes me laught to pretend you have long hair with it and I can totally understand.

  8. evil.paper.towel.must.die.

your hair in the last picture reminds me of ‘something about mary’

what does the back of the hat look like? are the ties attached? or do they really tie the hat on?

  9. Hi Monique – I was thinking the same thing about that last picture looking like “Something About Mary”…but you can tell that I’m blowing my bangs up (and they aren’t stuck that way), right?

I should have taken a photo of the back of the hat. There is just a little crossover knot, and it is indeed really tied together. It can also be tied in a bow.

    🙂

  10. I never would have thought of the paper towel trick to calm down dogs. Smart!

Love the hat, it’s way too cute.

  11. i hope i’m not the only person who had to look up who “rhoda” was!
*hides, embarrased* and the paper towel trick works wonders in the car
    as well!

  12. Hi Kate – are you too young for Rhoda? I suppose I was just a little kid when it was airing, so I wouldn’t be surprised. Rhoda was Mary Tyler Moore’s best friend, and there was a spin-off show for a while.

    🙂

  13. I love the hat design! It looks so fun. 🙂 When my dogs get hyped up we give them ice cubes. It really calms them down.

  14. I don’t know what they are called in English, but you know Donald Ducks little guys and their bear hats? This remind me of those beaver hats; brown with tails. 🙂 Just looked throw your knitted items – wow, that is one great list of acomplishments! 🙂

  15. I am so sorry I hadn’t seen this before coming to knitting group this morning. I guess it is no surprise that I do remember Rhoda!

  16. You are totally cracking up in that top photo, trying to get your Rhoda shot, aren’t you? It amuses me to no end.

I still miss my flippable hair. It hasn’t even been a week yet, so I’m still allowed to mourn the missed “swing”, right?
