Wool & Spit

Standard Friday fare. Sharp curves ahead.

img_6815.JPG Pink and Sturdy baby blanket = Finished.

I thought about duplicate stitching a snowflake pattern into it, but then I thought again. This is made with a washable wool, and I want it to be well-loved and used, with no details that can start to look ratty.

This should be a nice warm blanket when Molly Renee needs to be bundled up during the Alaskan winter. She’ll be warm and pink and girly.

img_6807.JPG I started and finished another project…a scarf made by using a little of the massive amounts of Knit Picks Palette that I have leftover.

I knit it double-stranded, and changed colors seventeen times. The cool thing is that I used spit-splicing, so I only had the cast-on and bind-off ends to weave in.

img_6811.JPG I don’t think I’ll be modeling any more knitwear myself until it cools off a bit here in Texas. Lucky for me, Anne Boleyn stepped in to help.

Next…!

These are my own design.

Lookit me. Modeling knitwear when I just said I wasn’t going to.

img_6802.JPG Another great fortune!

Several nice people have asked me about what is going on regarding the divorce, etc. The situation is that I’m still here in Houston, waiting for things to get sorted so that I can move to Austin.

If fortune cookies are any indication, this move is going to be GREAT.

img_6796.JPG I hope your weekend is as relaxing and peaceful as Lou’s.

I know I’m biased, but he is so freakin’ cute. Doncha want to kiss and squish him?

  1. Perfection is highly over rated! And boring.

And yes Lou just begs to be squished on.

Good Luck on the continued changes. I’m so envious of you move to Austin.

  2. I noticed the “interesting design feature” as well 😉
I love that scarf pattern – is it by any chance available somewhere on the great wide internets?

Best wishes for your move to Austin! I’m sure it will all work out just great. It always does, in the end.

  3. Great! Love changes for the better even though the interim waiting can be trying. Also, love sleeping dogs–they ARE so cute and I always try and fail to restrain myself from disturbing their sleeping with a little “squishing”.

  4. Okay, that sweater you made for your mom was insane. Unbelievable! I just bought about 10 balls of Palette for Christmas ornaments. It hadn’t occurred to me to attempt a complicated Fair Isle, STEEKED, sweater with it. Oh my! The scarf looks great (including the interesting design feature) and yes I want to squish Lou’s face up and kiss him on the forehead. I hope everything gets straightened out soon for you so you can move on to Austin…

  5. A couple of comments:
    1. I thought you didn’t have a stash?
    2. The baby blanket is very nice, you sure think of everything (your reasons for not adding the snowflake)
    3. The scarf is gorgous! Love the colours and the pattern
    4. I can’t wait to see your socks
    5. Glad you’re still doing well
    6. Dang that’s one cute dog! Love the little arm wrinkles and love their eyes when they sleep. So sweet!
    Happy Friday!

  6. I don’t see any unexpected features in the scarf.

But then, I’m not a knitter.

So, I guess, for me, if the tree fell and no one heard it, it didn’t really make a sound??

Too much philosophy on a Friday???

  7. Hi Denise – do you consider leftover yarn “stash”? I don’t. I have plenty of leftover yarn, but most of it is less than a full skein/hank, and really not enough for a project. The Palette sweater is the exception to that, since it left me with 30 balls of half-used yarn, in 30 different colors.

Here’s my idea about it: “leftover yarn” is unavoidable. “Stash” is a deliberate acquisition of yarn that is purchased to be stored, and is not currently being knit. I don’t have any of that.

    I’m stashless, I swear!
    🙂

  8. Regarding the scarf mistake (design feature) – the fact that the color changes aren’t centered in the scarf was deliberate. I like the balance of the un-balance. The mistake is in the lace pattern…best seen in the Anne Boleyn photo.

  9. Love the blanket, love the scarf, I’m sure I’ll love the socks. We should make a scarf for jewelry trade sometime! Your fortunes are great indications that life has something great and exciting for you. I’m just glad we all get to go along for the ride.

And yes, I just want to squish and kiss Lou’s little face. I want to get close to him, pat him on the head and talk baby talk until he gets irritated and moves away. That’s what I do to my cats.

  10. Oh, you know I love Lou. I wanted to take him back home with me to Austin. So freaking teeny and cute.

I LOVE that scarf and I’m not even a purple fan. I just love the way the color changes.

  11. awwww lou- so cute. my favorite part about b’s sleeping is how their ears gradually relax down to the side of their head. sending good thoughs for a speedy resolution and an exciting move to austin!

  12. I just LOVE the scarf!!! Purples and Blues are my all time favorite colors! And the blanket is cute too! Molly Renee is one lucky gal to have an Aunt like you!

And Lou is so squishy, as all the others!! They are the cutest things I have ever seen! I would just love to get some puppy love from all of them!! I love puppy lovin’.

I added you to my Ravelry friends the other day.. I am SweetThang

    Have a great weekend!

  13. I love the scarf! And I also love that you thought ahead for the baby blanket. That’s something I’d never think of. The one baby blanket I made was of Malabrigo. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I don’t have the heart to follow up.

  14. Haven’t had a chance to congratulate you on your adorable niece. I have been so happy to read that you are doing well, and I also envy your move to Austin.

And I apologize for this unsolicited advice: get a great lawyer and take your time to get a good settlement. I’ve seen too many people get screwed over in their haste to get through a divorce quickly.

  15. Love the blanket and the scarf. Especially love Lou. And is that another foot photo I see? I think there is a pattern happening here. Am I rubbing off on you? Be sure to check out todays Phoot Foto Friday post. I posted the story about how it all started.

    Have a great weekend!

  16. I love how you did the gradual color changes in that scarf! It looks amazing!

And that picture of Lou is sure to put a smile on my face all day, such a cutie!

  17. What a good idea to rid yourself of all those leftovers! Are we going to see more multicolored scarves accessories in the near future?

  18. Gorgeous blanket! Gorgeous scarf! and will be gorgeous socks! How do you have time to knit all this??? I am dying to learn to knit socks but get scared thinking of 4 doublepointed needles!!! I know I need to just bite the bullet and do it one of these days! Do you have any suggestions or advice for a sock beginner who still knits after 3 years like a novice???
    Have a great weekend!

  19. Great fortune!! Maybe I should go get one and see if it says “Good Sleep is on the way”, Molly loves blankets!!! She likes to pee on them sometimes, so it’s VERY good that it is machine washable. LOVE the scarf, didn’t see any imperfections though. And for Lou, he is adorable, and I don’t think you squish him enough!!

  20. Stashless???? How???? Got a lot of stash here. Love the scarf in all the purple spectrums–oh, so yummy. Socks are looking good too! Lou is too adorable to just look at; he must be squished and squished just like my 4 mo. old nephew! Happy Friday!

  21. i love that scarf. and i sense the short row heel will be happening shortly at the very pink household. unless you found a better heel, in which case i say – share!
