Sleep Sack

Knit in a soft baby yarn, the Sleep Sack has precious details like a Peter Pan collar, three button detail, and keyhole hook & eye closure at the back of the neck. The wide open bottom allows for easy diaper changes and plenty of baby kicks, while still keeping baby’s legs warm. In two sizes – 0-3 months and 6 months, the pattern includes links to a five-part video tutorial.

Sizes:
0-3 months (6 months)
Finished chest measurements: 18” (19”)
Needles: Size US 7 16” or 24” circular needle and US 7 set of double-pointed needles (Note: 16” needles are necessary for smallest size.)
Yarn: DK or sport-weight yarn in 1 or 2 colors. You’ll need about 150 yards total, most of that in the main color. I used Berroco Comfort DK in these colors:
2843 Kittens (2 skeins) and
2844 Twinkles (1 skein)
Additional Materials: 5 stitch markers (make one of them unique from the others), hook & eye closure, 3 tiny buttons, tapestry needle
Gauge: 5 stitches per inch

  1. Hello Staci,

    Happy Easter!
Thank you for making your baby shower countdown available as a kindle download. I use an iPad, and the format is flawless. The direct links to the tutorial videos is fantastic! I do have one small question- on the sleep sack, I am not getting a good solid join when I switch from knitting flat to round (right under the head opening). Do you have any suggestions on how I might make this join tighter? I have tried knitting it with more tension, but I am still getting a very significant ladder.

  2. I am doing your baby sleep sack. I am working on the collar…I am at the final six stiches. You say to do the Kitchener stich to graft….I am not sure how to do this. I looked on you tube an saw how they hold even stiches on 2 needles but, it is not turning out right the way I am holding it. What am I doing wrong? I need to finish this within a week for my daughter-in-law. Please let me know ASAP…thank you! Kim

  3. Kim – here is my video on the Kitchener stitch: https://verypink.com/2011/07/27/kitchener-stitch/

If you’re not able to line it up properly, you may have the stitches the wrong way on the needle. If you’re using DPNs, you can slide them to the other side, or if you’re using circulars or straights, you may need to take the stitches off the needles and reinsert the needle coming from the other direction. I’m not sure if that’s the problem you’re having…just do what you have to do to get the stitches lined up, half on the “back” needle, and half on the “front” needle.

  4. Hi

Just wanted to know in this video tutorial, the scarf on the dummy behind you, if you have a pattern for it, if it’s one of your own. Or you can let me know where I can the pattern.

    Thank you

    Tan

  5. Hi! Just bought the baby knits ebook. Why don’t you cast on any stitches in the armpit on this one to avoid the hole?

  6. Staci,

In the video you showed two sleep sacks…one was pink/blue the other looked to be a multiple of green/orange etc. Could you please tell me what yarn/name of you used?

    Thank you!
    Gail
