This week is the sixth video in a new series called Fancy Stitch Combos. In this series I hope to demonstrate stitches that have been requested, and hopefully introduce you to some new ones that I think are pretty and useful. Feel free to drop me a note if you’d like to submit an idea for a video in this series.

Information on things you’ll see in this video:

The green sweater on the mannequin is my Learn to Knit a Woman’s sweater, pattern + video tutorial.

The dark purple yarn I used in the worsted-weight sample is Madeline Tosh, Tosh Vintage, in colorway “Flashdance”.

The bulky yarn I used in the sample is Berroco Peruvia Quick.

The wood needles I use for demonstration are by Clover, size 10.5 (6.5mm).

  1. Help, I started this pattern and it looked good.. But as I knit rows I’m losing stitches. I started with 100 but now I have a lot less..
What I’m I doing wrong. Thanks

  2. Lilly – without seeing your work, I have no way of knowing why you’re losing stitches. Maybe you’re missing the yarn-overs? You have to have 1 increase (yarn over) for every decrease (psso). Just keep careful count on every row as you go.

  3. Okay I started it again and I see what I did wrong. I was losing my yo?!? Thanks any way.

  4. Just wondering why row 2 begins with a K1 in the directions for knitting in the round. This creates a line of knit stitches running up the work. Am I doing something wrong? Couldn’t Row 2 be *YO, SL1pw, K2, pass slip stitch over? Many thanks! We love your videos in the UK!

  5. Debbie – thank you for the note. Yes, you are correct – I had to make a decision about the instructions for in-the-round. I wanted to avoid starting the round with a YO, which I knew would cause confusion to newer knitters. But you will do fine to skip the K1 at the beginning of the round, and just CO a multiple of 3 stitches.

  6. Hi! I was watching the video and is very helpful since I am new at knitting. Can you please explain how you block ?
    Thanks. SC

  7. Hi Staci! I’m going to attempt my first lace using your fantastic video and pattern! I was thinking of making a short cowl but being a newbie, I wondered if knitting flat might be the better option. Could you suggest a nice way of joining the ends together though? Thanks!
