Loom Potholder Tutorial

The last video of 2016 is kind of a one-off, not knitting or crochet. (No worries, we’ll be back to knitting and crochet next week!) I hope you have as much fun making these workhorse potholders as I have.

I used this loom from Harrisville Designs. They also have a larger loom. And I used their 100% cotton loops.

Below are the patterns I show in the video. The images either show both the warp and weave, unless the warp and weave are identical, then I just show one photo.

  1. Thanks for sharing this. Can’t wait to try. Can you please explain how you handled the final stitch and added a loop at the end? On a YouTube comment you say to just pull it through like the rest, but it doesn’t seem like it would bind it off or add a loop. Can you shed some light? Many thanks for sharing all your expertise!

  2. Regarding the last loop – You just pull it through like the rest, and it stays put. You can use it to hang the potholders on a hook, if you like.

  3. Happy holidays, Staci! Thank you so much for this video. I would have never thought to do this as an adult because I didn’t realize that the materials have “grown up,” as you said! I made countless potholders as a kid on a plastic loom with acrylic loops, but this looks awesome. I will have to try it. You’ve probably fueled a new addiction, but I thank you for that!

All the best to you in 2017 and beyond!

    • Thanks for bringing back childhood memories. This was a thoughtful video to put out right after Christmas for folks whose daughters or granddaughters received looms for Christmas. It’s also good to know about the better materials available. Best wishes to you (and KC) in the New Year.

  4. Love it Staci! You just inspired me to try this as an adult! These make nice hostess gifts all through out the year. Thank you for inspirations in all your videos!

  5. Wow…..brings back memories of my first handiwork project. Can’t wait to try the “grown up” version. Thanks for an easy fun project. Happy Holidays, Staci, thank you (and KC) for the podcasts and your informative videos! Best wishes!

  6. Thank you for for this video. Two days ago, my husband was talking about making these as a kid. I have just ordered him a loom and some extra loops. I can’t wait to give him the kit and show him your video.

  7. OMG… I have to have that loom and loops. I’m so exited, after I saw your video. Thank you so much for sharing. Will try and figure out if they are available in Europe! Have a great day 🙂

  8. Wow, I love this. And yes, it reminds us all of childhood memories. So, to continue this knowledge and fun, I will buy two of these for my granddaughters. They like to craft, so I am sure they will love this.

Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year to you and all those you love.

    Cheers!

    • I ordered 2 HD Pro Looms before Thanksgiving and my 21 yo daughter and I were making pot holders on Christmas Day. She even got out her old tradional size one and made a few. I’m glad I came across this tutorial and photos, as always very helpful. Off to order a big bag of white loops…guess what people are getting next Christmas (I have all year, right ?)!?!

  9. Darn you, Staci! Every time you show us something new I feel compelled to buy it. I ordered a kit with extra loops which should be arriving this week. It will be nice to replace my ratty, old potholders with some colorful new ones.
