I could have made this fast-topic-changing-Friday post really long. Venturing into Chapter One of my new life means that there are so many crazy, funny, and strange things to talk about.
I’m laughing about a thousand times a day. Seriously.
Before we get started, please remember my shamless plea for Christmas cards at the bottom of Monday’s post. I’m so grateful and excited to get cards!
In the past, when things got weird, I used to stop eating. It was a very bad habit, but I didn’t know how to change.
I am proud to say that I have been purchasing, preparing, and consuming my own food. Every time I sit down to a meal, it’s a little triumph. Lookit me! I’m doing it! My arm hurts from patting myself on the back. Next…! |

Anne Boleyn needs to get off her non-existent ass and clean up her room.
I’ve had it with her and her filthy ways. Next…! |

Unusual Thing About My New House #1:
The broiler is under the oven, in the drawer. What?!? I have only seen this drawer used for storage in the past. It isn’t very convenient, and I have a burn on my arm to prove it. Next…! |

I am SO GLAD I bought a vacuum cleaner on the same day that I brought home new dog toys.
Ike and Abe had a blast tearing these up. Next…! |

Guess who learned to “sit” this week! Abraham!
It was impossible to teach him in a house with four dogs, because it was just too chaotic at cookie time. With the chaos removed, he learned to sit in one day. He is such a good boy. Yes, that is a handknit wool blanket. Nothing but the best for my boys. Have a great weekend! |
Its the little triumphs that often mean the most. Keep up the good work!
And let me say that I bow down in your presence! After have 2 – 2 year old Basenji in the house for 2 week I CAN NOT imagine having four. You are a Saint… or insane. LOL!
hmm weird, i’ve always had the broiler under the oven in that drawer.
abe rocks. he’s smart and handsome.
good boy abe! we’re still working on getting cody to sit and he’s the only dog in the house. i don’t even have any siamese or tonkinese babies (like i’d love to have) in the house making it crazy. as soon as anne is done with her room, tell her to get up to wisco and do my house! my office mate has made me fond of food again. it helps that he likes making special dishes for me and taking me out to dinner a lot. π good friends are the best. they might almost make me like the holidays. as always… more pics!!! (yes, i’m still working on teaching myself to knit. my secret santa is getting a crocheted scarf for her present. i need to hurry!)
I’m so proud of our little Abe…Good Boy!!
My favorite thing about having a broiler in the drawer in the bottom of my stove: bending over when I’m cooking. Who’s brilliant idea was this?
Maybe the model hand can help Anne Boleyn clean up her messy room??
Glad to hear that you’re eating. I stop eating when I’m stressed, too. You can tell by my girth that I have not been stressed in quite some time.
I have had both gas and electric stoves. The trend I have seen has always been electric broil in the oven w/ storage drawer, gas broil under the oven where it does a crappy &^^%@@$ job and steals my much needed storage. Of course, none of these ovens were top of the line though…..What a pooky boy Abe is!
My broiler is in the same spot. I never use it.
Way to go Awesome Abe!
I am glad you are having fun in your new home.
Growing up, our stove had the underneath broiler. I was very confused in my first apartment when I couldn’t figure out how to make the storage drawer make mini pizzas for me!
Tell Abe we are SO proud of him!
I think you need a new stove — we wouldn’t want you to decide not to cook!
P.S. card mailed to you today!
Hi Honey,
It’s looking like a real home!! I thought it looked good empty – now it looks wonderful!! I am not sending you a card for Christmas, but you are getting presents. Hope that makes up for it. Love You, Mom
Congratulations to Abe! What a smartie! Glad to hear you are laughing daily (unless it’s a maniacal laugh that should have you committed). And glad you’re eating again – your body will thank you. Weird about the bottom broiler. I’ve never seen one below either.
How are the boys doing being separated from their other 2 buddies? Abe doesn’t look stressed, and I imagine ripping apart a toy would make anyone feel more at home. π
Oh my gosh, I had that same weird broiler thing in my first apartment I almost ruined a bunch of stuff I had in there π
Have a great weekend to you too!
Staci,
I gave you incorrect information at the Knitting Nest today. The pattern I used for the pink and white hoodie is actually called Vestee on Knitty.com There is another hoodie pattern called hoodie but it is a different sweater. Sorry.
Dean
Glad you are getting settled in.
I agree the broiler drawer thing is weird, I love my drawer space down there, even though my mother keeps putting my baking sheets in the oven, I hate that. I like being able to just turn a switch to brown the top of whatever and not have to move it to another place.
Glad to see the “boys” enjoyed the toys. I don’t think I would be buying expensive toys for them though lol.
Good job to Abraham for learning to sit, maybe he just needed some space/less chaos to learn it.
BTW — How priceless is the comment from your mom? SO sweet! Hi to Staci’s mom!
When growing up, we had a broiler at the bottom, too. I actually think it’s normal. The first time I moved out and tried to cook in my new stove, I couldn’t figure out why nothing was heating up. Hmph!
Happy holidays!
Never until I had an electric stove did I have a broiler in the top of the oven. It took a lot of getting used to! I could tell by the flame in the bottom broiler just how long something would take to cook. With an electric element, it’s all a guess – what do I know from 400ΒΊ? π But I do prefer the cleanliness of electricity.
What kind of vacuum cleaner did you get? I just realized that my Electrolux is from 1956!!! (Inherited from my Grandmother – I’m not THAT old!) The user manual is a trip!
My grndmother had one of those broilers on top o the stove (like on 30 minute meals) and the otp of the unit doubled as a griddle. I wonder if they make those anymore?
Love the house and good job Abe!
Funny the house I’m in now is the FIRST house I’ve ever lived in without a broiler on the bottom (I was like pans in the broiler, what?). Glad to hear you’re settling in. You will get a card and something else too, but it might be post holidays.
Your house rocks. Doesn’t it feel good to drive up to it (wondering what the dogs have done) and know this is yours…all yours. Get yourself into full nesting mode- it really helps. And knitting is such a magnificent nesting activity. You have a card and other little treat coming from me in Maryland. I have to get my very EXISTANT ass (unlike Anne’s) to the post office!
I hope the party at the Nest was fun. Sorry I couldn’t make it, I had family obligations. Like in: Abby is now 7, the entire Dallas Fam came to celebrate, my mother’s new floor is almost finished (we still have to put in the trim but it’s been special ordered) I am trying to pack Tom’s bags for his trip to Vermont in two days, And I had to interrupt installing a new faucet because I didn’t have any silicone. Tomorrow I get to go back to work and relax. I will make it in soon, one day my familiy will learn to do things by themselves. Yay Abe!
i read that headline too fast and thought it said, “Anne Boleyn is a Filthy slut.” my mind is in the gutter.
and i have never seen an oven that has a broiler in the bottom drawer! how strange.
