Going Green

Verypink is your only source for fast-topic-changing Fridays. I think.

It has been abundantly clear over the last several posts that I am dogsitting Gus and Lou while Chris is traveling for work, making the doggie to human ratio in this house 4-to-1. I’ve been trying to shake things up and keep the posts about things other than canines. It hasn’t been easy.

As much as I adore these dogs and love having them here with me, it’s a bit overwhelming. Most of my days are spent feeding, walking, moving beds, picking up toys, opening doors, giving medicines, playing – the list goes on. When I do get a chance to sit down, there is never any place left for me to sit.

Today I’m NOT going to try as hard to keep the doggie content down. Because that’s what’s really going on here.

day-82.JPG There has been one bedroom of my house that I have ignored since I bought the place. I only opened the door long enough to throw something in. I decided it was time to make it a proper spare room.

If you want to know why I’m wearing a face mask, you’ll have to visit my flickr page.

img_9208.JPG After I cleared out the room, I was still feeling motivated, so I scraped the tacky popcorn texture off the ceiling.

I threw the dogs’ beds on the floor, satisfied with a good day’s work.

img_9210.JPG But I was high-on-life or something, because once the popcorn was removed, I decided to go ahead and repair the holes in the walls.

Then, surprisingly, I still had energy to buy paint and slap some up.

img_9238.JPG The next day I put two coats of paint on the ceiling. I might have overdone it…my shoulders are so sore that I’m unable to raise my arms above my head.

But now the room is clean, fresh, and green!

img_9213.JPG And so is this dog.

img_9167.JPG Every now and then, they actually use their dog beds so that I can sit on the human furniture.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Too funny! I understand the overwhelming feeling you must be having with the dogs. I know you will be missing them so much when they are gone again though–they are so cute.

  2. Wow! You are amazing! That is a lot of work to tackle! But I know the feeling, when I moved into my house, I just had to paint and remove carpet to remove the ‘essence’ of the prior owners. And one dog always had painted ears and tail because he liked to walk along the walls…somehow, I’m not sure what he did!

I absolutely love the two of them squished in the same bed. Although they are a source of a lot of work for you, I am sure they pay you back with licks and silly antics – right? How long will you have all four of them?

And, are you so sore and achey that you can’t even knit?

Wishing your muscles feel better soon, have a great weekend.

  3. Even though it’s a lot of work having 4 poochies around the house..it’s never a dull moment and it’s probably going to be too quiet when Gus & Lou go back to Chris.

Did Abe wipe out a spot on the wall when he painted himself green? What a goofball!

Kudos to you for having all that energy. The room turned out beautifully. I would have stopped after cleaning up the spare room. You are the energizer bunny!

Ok, first there was the tap shoe secret and now I see that you play the organ. What else are you holding back from us?

  4. Wow. I am impressed. I’ve been trying to motivate myself to paint a room, any room, for the last year(s). I think having the opinion of another person involved is not so helpful. If I could just do it I think it might get done. Having to talk about it for daaaays before actually being able to get down to business just kind of kills the mood. 🙂

It’s a good thing knitting isn’t done above one’s head.

Enjoy the extra little furry ones while they’re there, then enjoy the lack of the extra furry ones when they’re gone. You’ll have to stretch out on the couch, just because you can. 🙂

  5. cleaning and painting and green dogs, OH MY! silly puppies… i am now appropriately motivated. i WILL clean my room this weekend. thank you.

  6. No crystal meth…just a pot of coffee in the morning. 🙂

I’ll have Gus and Lou for another two weeks.

I don’t play the organ…that is actually a piano. I took lessons while I was in Holland, but I haven’t played much lately.

Abe is green because he ROLLED himself along a wet wall. His whole left side was covered in paint, from his ear to his tail. I was able to brush out most of it once it dried, but his head is still green.

  7. I’m impressed! And inspired.

LOL! I had to laugh at the picture of the guys bedded down in that room. Do you think they will perpetuate the teenage boy funk?

  8. snipped “it’s a bit overwhelming. Most of my days are spent feeding, walking, moving beds, picking up toys, opening doors, giving medicines, playing” I bet is you ask the dogs, this the overwhelming part. Aren’t we supposed to live our lives only to serve them and do nothing else. LOL You are my popcorn ceiling hero!

  9. I couldn’t help but notice that one bed doesn’t match the others….do they fight over the “speical” one? LOL

You definately get the “energy” ward this week. That is a lot of work. I am proud of you and love the green!

This week on my blog I posted quite possibly the sexiest Phoot Foto yet! And don’t forget to check out my puppy blog. They have been quite busy this week and enjoyed their first snow day yesterday.

    Hugs. Have a great weekend.

  10. Too funny about the dogs! Sounds like you are there to serve them, tee hee! You were really energized, but it all worked out to your favor. The room looks great!

  11. Great post, as always. I just love hearing about the dogs. That last post about their rock n’ roll party was adorable. I love seeing them all together again. I can imagine that you must feel like mutiny could be around every corner though. It’s a good thing they all have such sweet faces!

I have to tell you that I’m so impressed with your self-portrait project. I hope you are planning something artsy for these pictures. It’d be neat to print them and do a collage in your home. Seriously, they are really beautiful. Your creativity astounds me. Thanks for sharing them.

  12. Love the new green canine unit you’ve got there. Going for a matching set?

That’s not just a *teenage* boy smell. I don’t think they grow out of it. My brother is 21, and I don’t think his room has been properly cleaned in about 10 years (no, seriously, that was when we swapped rooms). I may be a messy person, but at least I shovel it all out to paint every few years!

    Enjoy your weekend

  13. I never get tired of posts about the boys!

You must have fabulous painting skills — I see no dropcloth! I must say that the green is definitely an improvement over the blue too.

  14. Wow, great work and still attending to 4 dogs/kids. I don’t think the mask worked…the teenage boy smell must have seeped through thus giving you all that teenage engery! LOL!
