Today’s Work

The house is clean, the sun is shining, the dogs are napping, and it’s time for me to get to “work”. I put “work” in quotations, because I’m enjoying this project way too much to call it that.

It will soon be a new pattern + video tutorial on a traditional log cabin style blanket. I think I’ll call it a Log Cabin Scrap Blanket, because I’m putting together the pattern as a way to use up small bits of leftover yarn scraps.

Here is my stack of “quilt” blocks so far –

I might just forget how to work a purl stitch while I’m making this. Not a single purl in the whole thing.

Maybe I’m blinded by my love of this project, but I think the wrong side of the work is pretty, too.

Time for me to get off the computer and back to “work”.

  1. PLEASE tell me that you blocked those blocks before you took that picture! All those straight edges are making me feel inadequate! 🙂

  2. Just beautiful Stacy! You outshine yourself everytime! I am such a fan of your work, you make it look so easy! thanks for sharing, Deb

  3. Okay. That’s it. No more scraps for you. I’m keeping them all to myself and making an awesome blanket like this for me! Seriously, though, I’m totally loving the color combinations you’re getting. Why don’t my scraps every coordinate like that?

  4. Nice! I’ve looked in the V&P lib and can not locate the pattern. You did say it was available now-correct?

  5. I stop by almost everday and just look at the treasure you have posted! Also, the Old Norwegian cast on was just what I needed for a sock cast on. Thanks Staci!!!

  6. I think your quilt is lovely…I have used this log cabin pattern and felted the squares for lovely potholders

  7. Hi Carol – no, the pattern isn’t available yet today, but should be out in the next few weeks. I’m still working on the pattern now, and hopefully we’ll shoot the tutorial next week.

  8. I can’t wait to see the tutiorial! 🙂 This would be perfect project for me while in between studying for my classes! 🙂 Good Job and I just love it!!!

  9. I will be looking forward to this tutorial. I’ve been wanting very badly to make a log cabin “quilt” just like what you give use a peek at. Yay!

  10. Thanks again Staci! I always learn so much from you and look forward to this new project. I have to agree that you always make things easy and approachable. I believe that is the sign of a great teacher!

  12. Stacy, I was THRILLED to find your very easy to follow fair isle tutorial this morning at YouTube. You made it seem almost easy! Thank you so much.

This is going to be an amazing finished blanket, love the colors you’ve chosen.

    Thanks again, G

  13. LOVE, and am looking forward to this tutorial. I’ve lots of scraps all of the sudden too, perfect for this.

  14. I have no scraps…..BUT what a perfect excuse to go buy some new yarn:) I love the log cabin design and cant wait to try it out.

  15. oh i love this! I have been wanting to make one of these. I am an advanced beginner and your tutorials are the best out there. Can’t wait for this!

  16. I can’t wait for this to come out.

Since it is using scraps are you going to have this for free??

I like things that are free. I can’t afford to buy things right now.

  17. Hi Staci,

Fell upon your website because I was looking for a pattern for fingered gloves as I have a daughter who works with animals and is always outside an can never have enough clean gloves!!

Anyway, I have always wondered what little project I could possibly do to get rid of all theses scraps. I love this idea and can’t wait to watch another one of your amazingly informative videos.

    Thanks again,

    Natalie

  18. Landed on one of your tutorials on youtube and, while I’ve been knitting for over 40 years, there have been some things I’ve avoided like the plague..and no practice, no improvement. Your videos were expertly done, just the right tempo…sooooo, I assume that all those blocks will have to be seamed…..going to include that in the tutorial???? PS Do you use a color wheel to come up with those lovely combos or just “wing it”? I wouldn’t have chosen them, but they are stunning.

  19. Hi Susan – thanks for the note.

To answer your questions – yes, seaming the quilt blocks will be part of the tutorial. And no – no color wheel to decide on the colors. I just used up my leftover yarn, and paid very little attention to how the colors were coming together. They just did. 🙂

  20. I can’t wait for this pattern to come out. I am a quilter and a brand new knitter and I am loving knitting as much as I do quilting. Thanks for the great patterns and videos.

  21. Hey there! I know I owe you a personal email as well … but thought I’d check out what you’ve been up to and this is awesome! I cant wait to see the final product. I love the idea 🙂
Hope you are doing well and I promise I will “still” myself here soon to write to you … I have a few too many jobs at the moment – argh! Love you and well done!

  22. Staci Staci Staci, How I love you so! I cannot wait for this pattern to come out. I am a quilter too and have looked at patterns of knitted quilts but after reading the directions didn’t think I would be able to do it. The seaming always looks daunting to me.

Knowing and having used purchased a number of your patterns and used your tutorials I know I will be able to do this no problem.

    Can’t wait!

    Ann

  23. I can’t wait to see your completed blanket – this is one of my favorite patterns for using up scrap yarn. I’ve been using all my left over bits of sock yarn to make a blanket that is one piece not blocks; it means picking up lots of stitches but worth the effort.

  24. Are you knitting these blocks in one piece – turning and casting on, picking up stit ches, etc? Or are you knitting strips and sewing them together? Culdn’t. Tell from your pix.
    Lovely by the way.

  25. Hi…just love your video…best I’ve seen…just one question…when I am counting ridges, do I count the stitches on needle?
