The bulky gray yarn I used in the sample is Malabrigo Chunky, in color Polar Morn, knit using size 10.5 US needles..

The blue yarn I used in the lacier sample is leftover Blue Moon Fibers sock yarn – sorry, I don’t remember the color name! That sample was knit on size 7 US needles.

The sweater on the mannequin is my Easy-Knit Sweater Jacket, pattern + video tutorial.

The shawl I’m wearing is the Clapotis pattern, knit with Noro Silk Garden yarn.

  1. OOOOh I love this stitch! Since it is not a difficult repeat to memorize with that definite line to help keep track of where I am at on the row.

I did notice that the double decrease leaves a little extra yarn loop that looks a bit unsightly and might snag. I am going to try slipping just 1 stitch to the right needle, knit 1 and then slip the other stitch. I have a couple ideas to try. I will be sure to update my post in a few weeks.

Thanks again for your tutorial guides! They truly are a huge help!

  2. Just wanted to add that I think the extra bit of loopiness in decrease stitch is result of being a super tight knitter. I will keep trying and might try using a larger needle for the casting row.

Sorry for making a bit of a mess in your comments section. Please remove both posts if necessary.

  3. Staci..
You are an AH-mazing insructor!! I taught myself to knit from books long before the internet age….consequently, my skils were limited because I was never quite sure what I was doing!!

Your video lessons have taken me to knitting projets I only dreamed about because I wa never sure I was doing it right….socks…lace…mitts….knitting in the round….I get excited everytime your new tutorial comes out, lol!

My question is…here is this Aussie knitting genius Brian and does he have a sock pattern using this gorgeous stitch and will he _share_ said pattern??…..ok, that _was_ three questions, sorry..

But I am dying to use this stitch and a lovely hand dyed wool that I spun last year!

Brian simply must share his knitting genius with those of us who are knittingly challenged!!

Thanks for all your wonderful tips, tricks and trade secrets.and the inspiration you bring to the craft !!

  4. Like you, my favorite cast-on is the long tail cast-on…on your swatch, did you work a purl row first so that that the pretty side of the cast-on would be the right side? Thanks! 🙂

  5. Hi there 🙂 I have been coming here on and off for awhile. I love the way you teach 😀 The way you do things, makes it look simple! I bought your Christmas Stocking pattern and tutorial and I learn how to make my first every stocking. Thanks again! The real reason I am sending you a note is I was wondering about this pattern. I know you said that this wouldn’t be the best one to use for a scarf pattern, but I like the look and thought about my mom when I saw this 🙂 Let me know if I could still do this 🙂

    Thank You,
    Katrina

  6. Hi Katrina – thank you for the note. If you knit this stitch in a flat scarf, the scarf will curl. You can, however, knit a border of garter stitch or seed stitch around each side to help it lie flat. Hope that helps!

  7. Hello! I’m a novice knitter, and wanted to clarify how to repeat after row 6. Do I continue with the pattern of row 5 (K3, YO…), or do I return to row 1 and repeat rows 1-6 until complete?
