Do I count them in the stitch count?

Grace Mae – you want to count everything that you have on the needle as your CO stitches, including the three that you start with.

For what kind of projects would you use this technique? Sweaters? Socks? Etc
Hi Caitlin – this CO is nice for whenever you want a tidy, rolled edge. But it’s not good for socks or other stretchy things – it doesn’t have much “give” to it. Hope that helps!

Thank you for many grait videos. I have learn a lot.
The first row after the cast on is a bit bigger than the next.
The last 2 stits is not as high as the others.
Is there anything I can do about that.

Meta – it takes practice to get good tension with any stitches, but this one is a bit more difficult. It also helps if you are using a wool yarn – wool is more forgiving than other fibers, and your stitches will look better, even if you’re having tension problems.

When I reach the total number of stitches that I want to cast on, the first two have not been “i-corded” and the depth of the work is less for them. After I knit the first row, the bottom edge is curved. Is this how it is supposed to be or is there some special treatment to finish the cast on process? Thank you!
Hi Melissa – the first three stitches are “i-corded”…but I suppose what you’re seeing is that the first few stitches cast-on are not. I always find that this edge can be easily squared-out with blocking. If it’s giving you trouble, you can pin it out as it dries. Using an animal fiber yarn will make it easier to shape, and hold it’s shape.

Okay, sorry to be repeating questions, but I’ve been practicing this cast on over and over in preparation for my next project. Yet, no matter what I do, I can’t get the row after the cast on to look normal. I’ve used several different yarn types, pulled the yarn as tight as possible, used the ends of the needles, everything. But no matter what the row following the cast on is at least twice as big as the others. Do you have any idea what I’m doing wrong?
I’m sorry – I don’t know specifically what’s going wrong without seeing your work. It sounds like your probably working the stitch properly but still having tension issues. The only fix for that is to really pay attention to your tension, and practice. You may want to bring your work into your local yarn shop so that someone there can take a good look at it…they may be able to offer you more specific advice.

I have only recently re-taught myself to knit, socks was my goal and thanks to your super clear videos I’ve knit two pairs!
Now I have started a sweater, and I used the i-cord cast-on because it looks good. My question to you:
Is there a good way to join up the i-cord cast-on when knitting on a loop?
This time I’ve simply sown togeather the end in a manner that camouflages the gap and the sloping beginning and end, but I was thinking there might be a slicker way?

Hi. I am knitting a stephen west shawl which includes i cord edging. I just noticed that about 20 rows down i knit those three stitches instead of slipping! Ugh! And wayntomfiz tus withoutnripping back? Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I have a perfect cast-on but ROW 2 looks weird knit in garter stitch. Any suggestions????

I can’t figure out how to successfully tink this stitch pattern. Can you please provide some guidance on how to partially rip out and restart from the middle of the icord. Thank you.
