It Was a Hairy Bear, It Was a Scary Bear

Excited!

I’ve kept my lip buttoned for four months, but I can finally talk about it now that I’ve seen it with my own two laser-corrected eyes.

It’s Friday, so the topics are fast and furious.

img_7038.JPG If you’re familiar with Laurie Perry, a.k.a. Crazy Aunt Purl, then you know that her new book was just released.

Laurie is a very funny young woman who is gifted at putting her humor into writing. I’ve enjoyed her blog for years.

I’ve also gotten to know her a bit, and she is as enthusiastic and charming in real life as she comes across in her writing.

At the time of publishing this post, this book is #1 in THREE Amazon categories: Divorce, Knitting, and Needlecrafts. I am so happy for her!

img_7042.JPG Imagine my glee, when back in May, she asked me to write a pattern for this book!

Lookit! Here I am!

Page 245!

img_7047.JPG Here’s the photo of the shawl from the book.

It’s made using the same lace as the Renee Baby Blanket, all sexified into a shawl, with a drapey silky yarn.

I’m excited for Laurie, I’m excited about the book, and I’m so happy that I could be a part of it.

img_7050.JPG The latest on the Wedding Gift Sweater…the back is finished. I should be able to finish it well before October 6th.

Whew.

It is a cropped sweater, after all.

Next…!

mother.JPG I have recently rediscovered my love for Schoolhouse Rock thanks to YouTube.

After all these years, I was shocked by how non-PC some of them are! Especially the ones that have to do with the American Revolution. King George III and Napoleon are totally dissed.

Not to miss: Mother Necessity, and We Unpacked our Adjectives.

I’m not sure where I’m supposed to sit.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Yeeehaw – Congrats on the plug in Laurie Perry’s book!! You’re famous … I want first dibs on an autograph! *teehehe* πŸ™‚ You’re canine compatriots are just way too cute!

  2. Yeah, yeah, yeah! Two of my favorite Blog people in one post (btw–are you two related?–the name thing is too funny. Love the doggie pictures (poor Abe he is putting on a little pout there) and LOVE Schoolhouse Rock!

  3. How exciting for both of you! I’ve been a big fan of CAP for a long time now–rarely does anyone make me laugh out loud more often! Congratulations!

  4. Something else I’m grateful for that I didn’t mention in the post…

Since I wrote the pattern back in May, my bio for the book was already outdated before the book was printed. Laurie was nice enough to re-write my bio, removing words like “husband” and “Chris”. I didn’t even have to ask her.

    πŸ™‚

  5. Congratulations!! I am SO excited and can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!

It looks like Abe has the favored spot and the red dogs had to settle for the couch. πŸ™‚

I’m somewhat ashamed of how many Schoolhouse Rock videos I have . . . and the cassettes and the DVD.

  6. I am so looking forward to getting my copy of Laurie’s book — I pre-ordered it and may have to cancel it and reorder it in order to get it sooner than the “late October” date I’m being told it will ship. Laurie’s going to be in Peoria and I want to ask, er, beg her to sign it for me. I don’t suppose you’ll be around central Illinois anytime soon so I can get you to sign the book, too? Just checking.

And oh yeah, were you two SILs? Hmmm?

One more — have you moved yet? Good luck with all that. Have a great weekend.

  7. I just bought the book, so I hadn’t even noticed the pattern yet! Yay for both you and Laurie! Laurie seems like the kind of person who would update your bio so nicely. Congratulations!

We have the DVD set of School House Rock at our house. The gravity song is one of our favorites.

  8. Congrats on the book! That’s so cool.

When I used to go camping in BC, I had a big Rubbermaid bin that would come along in the car with the cooking stuff in it. (I’m a car camper at best) Emblazoned across the side I’d painted, “ADJECTIVES.” Every time I opened that container I laughed to myself that I was unpacking my adjectives.

  9. You. Are. So. Cool. Congratulations on the book! Now I wish I knew how to knit so I had an excuse to buy the book. I guess knowing one of the contributors is a good enough reason.

School House Rock is an all-time fave of mine. It’s probably one of the reasons I was an English Lit minor in college. Now I’m going to go around the house singing “Unpack Your Adjectives” to the kitties.

What do you mean, you don’t know where to sit on the couch? I see a small space between two of them for you. Isn’t a 6-inch section on the crack of the cushions good enough for you? Every time I get up from the couch, Littles steals my seat. She likes her perch pre-warmed. She’s a rotten seat stealer.

  10. Even though Amazon is currently listing Laurie’s book as a pre-order, you can walk right into Barnes and Noble and buy it. I did!

And – even though Laurie and I share the same last name, there is no relation (that we know of).

    πŸ™‚

  11. Yee haw! Good for you and Laurie truly is a funny, gifted writer. Now, thanks to you, I’m singing some silly song about how a bill becomes a law. Oh, and I broke the blog dyke – I just took some time off.

  12. Wow – congratulations to both of you! That stitch pattern is quite pretty. Me likey! I just burned a half hour watching YouTube Schoolhouse Rock. There are so many I had forgotten about. It calls up sweet memories…

  13. Congrats on being published – too cool!

One of the dogs must just be saving a seat for you. At my house every single time I get up one of the dogs saves (read steals) my seat. Then when I come back I get the look that says, “Move your feet, lose your seat!”

  14. You only have the back done? ::sigh:: I was expecting a sleeve or two! (j/k) Congrats on your pattern in the book, that’s awesome.

  15. Yay! Congratulations! (okay, I knew already, but now you have the book.)

If you really want a Schoolhouse Rock fix, I can loan you my DVD. You can watch all the episodes on the big screen–not just on the little YouTube screen. It has a bunch of special features, too.

  16. Hey! Congratulations on the book! Hometown Staci makes good! Have you ever thought about writing your own knitting book? Your patterns are really unique and beautiful.

I’m glad I’m not the only grown woman who watches cartoons! My tv is almost permanently set to the Boomerang Channel–Popeye, MGM cartoons, Pink Panther, Tom & Jerry . . . Hell, I’ll watch Jonny Quest if I’m desperate enough! (And if Law and Order isn’t on, LOL.) And if I get up early enough, I’d rather watch “Mr. Rogers” than the morning news ANY day. I don’t need to know about Iraq! Mr. Rogers said it was going to be a great day in the neighborhood! So sad, LOL.

My cat Lucy will appear out of nowhere to steal my seat on my office chair. I think she thinks I only sit there to warm it up for her. Just push those dogs out the way and tell them, “The PUBLISHED KNITTER needs to sit here!” Ha ha! πŸ˜€

  17. I still have the preamble memorized from my senior year in high school. well, at least part of it. i just listened again and i completely forgot one section. anyway good times.

the dogs so rule that house. i love how they are all asleep there.

i’m so excited for you, staci. i can’t wait to get my copy!

the sweater is looking awesome. again, you’re the best!

  18. WOW, how exciting to have your pattern in her book. I am so happy for you.

The dogs look totally in control. Don’t ya know, silly girl, that you now have to sit on the floor. LOL

    Have a great weekend.

  19. Congrats! What a wonderful accomplishment πŸ™‚
And I think Abe’s the winner in this situation, even though he looks like he’s the poor outcast. Who wouldn’t want a big comfy chair to themselves?
I love the “red dog nap party” too cute.

  20. I love seeing (almost) all of your dogs together in one shot! The shawl you designed looks really beautiful, how exciting is it to see it in a book? I must go pick up a copy and knit it!!

  21. Congrats on publishing! How exciting to see your art in print. πŸ™‚

Our dogs rule in the house. We have to conform to them most of the time.

  22. Congrats on having a plug in your friends book, and congrats to her. It looks like a good read.
Your dogs are so cute, are they always leaving Abe on his own? Are they prejudice doggies? LOL
I guess you will have to find another place to sit for sure, they like to take up the whole couch by the looks of it.

  23. That’s great! Congrats on having your (very lovely) pattern in Laurie’s book! The red dog nap party is pretty darn cute (is poor Abe feeling a little excluded, though?)! I bet they’re expecting you to go curl up on the floor!

  24. Whoa! You’re famous and I know you—well, only in blog world, but hey, that’s freakin’ awesome! I want the book! Must request my copy now. Good progress on the crop! You rock, knitter woman. The boys are so damn cute and I look forward to their part each and every time. I totally felt like that when I had my cats—where to sit??? Have a good weekend. Must go checkout Schoolhouse Rock for a good laugh.

  25. Congratulations on the book and keeping a secert that long! Doesn’t get much more exciting than that.

I only have two dogs and I had to buy a sectional to have a seat for myself. I suggest tossing a couple dog treats and snagging a spot while they’re after the food.

Schoolhouse Rock totally Rocks! I bought the DVD for “the kids” and we all love to watch it. Conjunction Junction what’s your function?

  26. I got the book yesterday at Barnes & Noble. I was surprised they had it – you know how it is in Alaska….anyway I LOVE THE BOOK!!! It is so funny and I’ve been through it, minus the cats. And now I have your Renee Baby Blanket pattern!! I love it. Thank you!

  27. Wow! Congrats on the pattern! I read Crazy Aunt Purl but I still hadn’t figured out if there would be patterns, or if it was like, a “book” book. Now I definitely have a reason to pick it up πŸ™‚

  28. Congratulations! I can’t believe you could do all that, right under our watchful eyes! Yay you! So proud!

The red dog party is really adorable!
