Happy Independence day, fellow Americans!
And welcome to the 2008 edition of the Fast-Topic-Changing Fourth of July.
I’ve been ignoring verypink for the last couple of weeks, but with a decently good reason. I also haven’t been taking as many photos as I normally do, so I’m recycling (recycling, good!) some of my self-portraits for this post. Let me explain…
I’m not one to complain, but I’m also not one who normally gets headaches. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been getting crazy, sudden-onset headaches. I’m working with my doctor to figure out what’s going on in my head.
In the meantime, I’m just trying to take it a bit easier. Please send good thoughts. Next…! |

In MUCH better news, I reached a milestone on my self-portrait project!

Update on the little foster dog: Mia now lives with her new family in Calgary, and they ADORE her. It is such a happy story.
Mia has a human mom and dad, two Basenji brothers, and one Basenji sister. Next…! |

Oh! Here’s the yoga mat bag that I didn’t manage to photograph before my last post.
Perfect for a yoga mat, or arrows (if you’re Robin Hood). Next…! |

Aaaaand some Christmas stockings I made as a store sample for The Knitting Nest.
I should have put something in the photo for size reference…these are normal, big stockings. Perfect for gift cards, or lumps of coal. Next…! |

Today could be interesting. It’s my first 4th of July in the new house, and I’m not yet sure how many of my neighbors will set off illegal fireworks. (Pretty stupid, considering the fact that Austin’s drought status is currently “Exceptional”.)
Abe is terrified of fireworks. Last night he wouldn’t step outside when he heard some firecrackers. |
|
Ike? He’s alright. I’ve only seen him afraid of ONE THING the whole ten years that we’ve been friends…and that was a llama.
Not much danger of seeing a llama today. Have a safe, happy Independence Day! |
OMG, please tell us the llama story! I bet it’s a good one!
I’ve been wondering where you were! Sorry to hear about the headaches – they can be really debilitating. Hope things get better.
Yes, we need to hear the llama story. I’m now thinking about Monty Python…
I’m glad you’re back, I was wondering where you were, in fact if you didn’t post today I was going to send you an email! So sorry to hear about your headaches, how awful – sending you well wishes. And fast!
Glad to hear Mia is safe and sound in a happy loving Basenji home!
And I can totally related to Abe’s issues as my dog is very noise phobic (and if you know anyone who can help, please let me know – my vets aren’t able to help-nothing’s worked!) We had thunder one night and firecrackers last night – two sleepless nights for everyone in the house….
Love their spotty parts and Ike’s cute back wrinkles!
Fab photos as always.
And finally, Happy Fourth!
There isn’t much to the llama story, but here it goes…
When Ike was about a year old, I was walking him in my neighborhood just outside of Seattle. It was just the two of us back in those days. We were walking along the sidewalk when a couple appeared walking their two llamas. It was that random.
At first Ike was curious, but as we got closer, he freaked out. He wanted AWAY. I’ve never seen him react like that since then! He approaches everything with confidence. 150 lb Bull Mastiff? Ike’s fine. Thunderstorm? Ike wants to GET it. Timid herbivore llama? Aaaaaaaaaah! RUN!
🙂

Yes – Ike’s always had good wrinkles. His Basenji suit has always been a few sizes too large.
I wanted to include this in the post but I forgot…
(I’m in no way affiliated.) http://www.goodreads.com is like Ravelry or Facebook for people who read. I’m really enjoying it, and I’m excited to see so many of my friends signing up. If you sign up and want to “friend” me, you can find me via my email address – staci@verypink.com
Just one more thing to eat into my knitting time.
Yes…only 200 days. My countdown clock at my desk can’t count down fast enough!
Happy 4th!
Head on! Apply directly to the forehead!

Llamas? Really?
Happy to see you’re ok, I was worried!
Thinking anti-headache thoughts. Been there. Be happy!
Sorry to hear about the headaches. As a chronic migraineur (and yes, it is a word) since age nine, I feel for you.
What is it about owning multiples of Basenjis? One is good, two is better, but three or more is the best? Seriously though, the breed must really worm it’s way into your heart for people to own two, three or four or them. Glad Mia is settled in her new home AND with sibs, too.
Can’t wait to check out readwell.com. I spend a lot of time reading in the summer. Not always reading the highest of literature, mind you, but am always open to new ideas. Thanks for the recommendation.
Oh gosh, I feel your pain with the headaches. I am a chronic headache sufferer, and they do suck bigtime. I am sending you lots of positive energy.
I love the llama story, so cute. I hope your pups make it through tonight with as little stress as possible.
I have only had a total of two migraines in my life, after a car accident. My husband however, deals with occular migraines very often. Of late, he’s had a constant headache and just lives with it. Regardless of any of the details and nuances, headaches suck mucho.
I love a post that ends with “Not much danger of seeing a llama today” 🙂
Have a great weekend, and hope the headache situation improves.
Staci,
I thought that you had just kinda gotten bored with writing or was so busy dating and painting the town red that you just didn’t want to blog any more.
I sure wish that was the situation instead of being plagued with headaches. I just had an MRI of my brain done two weeks ago due to not being able to keep my balance along with killer headaches.
So far, no news is good news.
Hi Honey,
Just looked at your “flikr” page. Is that your Tiffany ring you’re wearing?
