Hi Staci and Polly,
I started my spinning practice on an Ashford e-spinner—no regrets!! I love it. I started with the spinner moving slowly and have worked my way up in both speed and consistency of my spinning. Now I also use drop spindles and I love having both types of projects going. I have a supported spindle but I’m having challenges with that (we shall not speak of it…). Also, I found alpaca challenging as a beginner. I found BFL to be a good fiber type for me when I was starting because it has a very long staple length and it is less slippery. The best advice I got about spinning is to knit your spun yarn right away. As an experienced knitter you know what you like to knit, and knitting your spin will tell you right away if you enjoy the yarn you’re making. Respect the Spindle is a great book and will help you troubleshoot how to change your spin to make the yarn that you want to knit.
