Learn to Knit Magic Loop Socks

Magic loop knitting is a way of knitting socks (or any tiny tube) with a long circular needle instead of double-pointed needles.

In this pattern you will see links to seven instructional videos that will explain each section in detail, and help get you through the tricky parts. All you need is less than 200 yards of worsted-weight yarn and size US 5 circular needle with at least a 24″ cord. (A longer cord is even better.)

This pattern is for a worsted-weight anklet sock. We’re using heavier yarn and bigger needles than most knitted socks, so that you can quickly learn and work through the elements of Magic Loop sock knitting. The techniques you learn here will set you up for working with all kinds of other sock patterns.

Size: Any size woman’s shoe size, average width
Needles: Size 5 US circular needles, at least 24” in length (longer is better)
Yarn: at least 200 yards of worsted-weight wool or wool blend yarn
Additional Materials: stitch marker, tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: 5.5 stitches per inch in stockinette

Learn to Knit Your First Scarf

Here it is – the pattern and video tutorial for brand-new knitters. This tutorial will teach you to knit, and get you started on your first project at the same time. Pattern includes links to 7 instructional videos.

This tutorial covers all of the basics, which will set you up well for future projects! We learn slip knot, casting-on, knit stitch, purl stitch, binding off, pattern reading, and how to alternate knits and purls in the same row.

Materials Needed:
• one skein of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Worsted (widely available at craft stores), or 200 yards of another worsted-weight yarn, preferably wool or wool-blend
• size 10.5 US needles (preferably wooden ones)
• a tapestry needle for weaving in your ends

Size: Women average width, any shoe size
Needles: Size US 5 (3.75mm) double-pointed needles (DPNs)
Yarn: 100 grams of worsted weight yarn in a wool or wool blend
Additional Materials: tapestry needle for weaving ends, size G or H crochet hook, scrap yarn, a clippie marker
Gauge: 5.5 stitches per inch

This pattern is for a worsted-weight sock. We’re using heavier yarn and bigger needles than most knitted socks, so that you can quickly learn and work through the elements of toe-up sock knitting. The techniques you learn here will set you up for working with all kinds of other sock patterns.

For this pattern you’ll need less than 200 yards of worsted-weight yarn, size US 5 double-pointed needles, and a size G or H crochet hook (for the provisional cast-on).

Gauge: about 5 stitches per inch in Stockinette Stitch, but this is not especially important in this pattern. Just be sure you are creating a fabric you like, that is neither too loose and open with all of the eyelets, nor so tight that you can barely see the eyelets.
