Sheila – it’s normal to have small holes under the arms of top-down sweaters, or to see holes any time you change direction it knitting. With top-down sweaters we’re lucky, because the yarn tail leftover from reattaching the yarn to knit the sleeve is there, and we can close up any holes when we weave in the end.
This is totally normal, and expected! Nothing to worry about.

I would like to do this sweater for my older daughter, she’s 12. I guess I need only to do it larger with more increases, is that correct?
Ines – I suggest finding a sweater pattern on Ravelry written for a 12 year-old, and not trying to alter this pattern to fit.
